SPN 4.20
The episode left me feeling quite cold. I am a touch biased, I admit, I spent several long weeks coming up with Jimmy's background, and perhaps build up expectations, and there are several problems I have with the episode.
First, the timeline - Anna heard angels for the first time the day Dean got out of hell. We were lead to assume this was because that's when they arrived, what with the revelation she was an angel herself and would therefore not just randomly tune in whenever her brain had a spazz. We know Castiel was in Hell up until Dean was resurrected, at least that was the picture he painted. Given his epic usefulness in a fight, he might have been just skulking in the shadows, waiting for an opening to grab Dean off the rack. And yet Jimmy was put to a test before he was possessed, and unless I'm mistaken it looked like it took weeks - long enough for him to get pills prescribed.
Second - blood? Seriously? Like, there is a gene that allows for being a vessel? Little girl!Castiel was epic though. :) There's also the matter of Earth logic being applied here. They split and they expected that no demon would come up with the brilliant idea of holding family for ransom? When they managed to track him down to his own home?
Huh, Castiel sure did get chastised properly. I wonder why. He was almost anxious in the dream, which Dean, fishing, hee! And he was making such progress, too! The comment about not serving humans is puzzling, though. Judeo-Christian mythology has God create the universe and neighbourhood for the sole purpose of giving humanity a good background, so either the show is working a totally different angle, or the angels, in the absence of the Lord, got fed up and decided to get their due.
Sammy is worrying. All the trouble and he still hasn't realised revenge at all cost cannot end well. Ruby's true colours are beginning to show, at last, which makes me happy. Two seasons she's been in, and we still have no idea what her goals are.
The preview was very, very puzzling. WTF swearing service to Heaven? What does Heaven care if the Earth if taken over by demons, if they don't serve humans? Lucifer might be a worry, but he is one angel and SPN demons are humans, twisted by Hell. Epic brother fight, yeah, I'm so not looking forward to that.
