Ruining your precious childhood.

Things I liked:

  • Ben Barnes.
  • Lucy kicking ass and taking names. Seriously, did you see her swordsmanship? She was easily holding her own and what was best, no one even raised an eyebrow. I know I was snarky about Susan in Prince Caspian, but Susan was canonically unwilling to shoot to kill, and unwilling to get into a fight, let alone war. Romantic plot tumour didn't help much.
  • Will Poulter (Eustace) and his bromance with the talking mouse.
  • King Caspian and Edmund. I know my goggles were on pretty tight, but there were scenes which were very, very slashy. It's like they were looking for opportunities to be alone together, then there was the dressing together, and sitting really, really close, while watching the stars, and I swear Edmund at the very least brushed Caspian's cheek with his mouth when they hugged...

At this point I would like to remind you that Skander is turning 20 this year and Ben starred as Dorian Gray, in what was basically Ben Barnes Shags Everyone, The Movie.

Things I didn't like:

  • Clumsy script. Don't know how much of it I can blame on the dubbing, but I know it's some - in the dubbed version, for instance, I didn't have a clue why Lucy's wish progressed as it had. Pointless child was pointless.
  • Overdramatised issues. Random daddy issues totally from left field? Check. Not pretty enough (doubly baffling, as Anne Popwell and Georgie are quite similar, and neither of them is as beautiful as Ben Barnes)? Check. Not kingly enough? Check. It was rather clumsily done, altogether. Caspian comes off as incredibly shallow, too, in the looks department, though he can afford it, being Ben Barnes. To be fair the book wasn't much better on that front.
  • Ambivalent about the extra plot, as I loved the leisurely journey the book had been. Wasn't all that necessary, but I guess it worked. More or less. There is always room for more Tilda Swinton, though it's kind of lame that for three movies in a row she's been showing up to hit on Edmund in his head. Lay the poor witch to rest already! It's been pointed out that the green mist might be foreshadowing for The Silver Chair, which I guess is cool, but I would still have liked less EVIL, WE MUST VANQUISH THE EVIL, WHICH IS EVIL.
  • For the last and final time, movie makers, even in a bloody magical land with talking mice, a good sailing weather will turn your stomach over. Optimal sailing conditions for that kind of vessel is Beufort's 5, meaning 2-3 metre (that's roughly 7-10 feet) waves. If the see is flat, the sailing conditions are Not Good, as it means there is no wind. Furthermore, seas and oceans are never, ever flat, when you're far out. While we're at it, a tall ship can only sail with the wind, at beam reaching at best, depending on how advanced it is. Dawn Treader could maybe go broad. Maybe.

Still looking forward to seeing TRON, but that won't be until into the New Year, as tomorrow am leaving for a skiing trip and the day after I have a very important test. :(

*huggles* See you guys in 2011!
