well, a lot of that is government regulated. if the snack factory has nuts processed in it, it has to label its packaging as such. a lot of other things are just companies labeling to cover their butts from a sue happy populous.
i once bought a pair of pants with an accompanying belt. the label instructs said to remove belt prior to washing. i was at a loss as to why someone had to be told a leather item had to be taken off before the slack were sent through the washer.
and DO NOT get me started with the whole "plastic bags are not toys" labels. that one is just too ridiculous to fathom! the fact that babies/young children died, were brain damaged, etc to warrant that label just sickens me.
