So Kevin Bacon is evil, what else is new?
Jun. 5th, 2011 03:54 pmBehold, X-men: First Class, in which Xavier is protective of his hairdo and runs for fun, Beast is a dorky kid, Mystique isn't naked and Hannah Montana's boyfriend is throwing red energy beams at people, a movie too late, we feel, diamond is brittle.
Things that aren't new: dialogue is cheesy at times, Kevin Bacon is evil, Magneto oozes sex, Mr Tumnus (i.e. Charles Xavier) is all kinds of adorkable, the black guy dies first, the slow-mo and the Latino chick is an evil stripper.
Things that are supercute: Charles going through Eric's memories to find a super-shiny one (manly tear of emo angst included!), Charles and Eric in a strip-joint, sitting on a table and sharing champagne, the cradling at the end, basically every moment Charles and Eric are on-screen together.
Things that scared me: Kevin Bacon, OMG really slim people creep the fuck out of me. Not even the skeletal people, because that's just wrong, but the naturally really skinny. Eeep!
Bottom line: it was pretty good. First it's depressing, then it's dorky and funny, then our heroes meet and it turns into this love story (according to Mr Tumnus) with a rather bitter ending (note to fandom: leave slashgoggles at home. You won't need them). :( Anyone with a passing knowledge of German and Russian will be loling at Kevin Bacon's rendition or in fact anyone's rendition of Russian.
