Ha, so I had three hours off today and I went to see Prometheus (side note: weirdly enough, Chrome spellcheck includes Promethean, but not Prometheus) and hell, I loved it! It's absolutely lovely to watch (and I don't mean just Michael Fassbender, though he contributes a lot to the pretty), the script is simple, straightforward and doesn't fall into the dreadful "Supporting character #3, state your hobbies and familial relations, for the audience to gauge your chances of survival". Ugh, I hate that trope. Sure, the crew of the ship is apparently 17 in numbers (captions tell you so), and I can remember maybe six of those people, and even the I don't remember the names of the pilot and that other guy. It felt really nice and human, no show whatsoever. I know people complain that it doesn't really explain anything, but does it have to?

Here, let me spoil you: )

Bonus spoilers that I only now remembered. )

Can't remember anything else - suffice to say that a) forget you ever heard it's an Alien prequel, it's a totally different thing, with a few nods b) it's awesome. :D

Oh, and I got my diploma in biophysics. Well, passed the exam, for which I got a 5.0 (4.5 overall) on a scale of 2-5. WOOHOOO!

Fic Title: A Very Special Episode
Author: [profile] misswinterhill
X-Men Verse: XMFC AU
Characters/Pairings: Charles/Erik, background Raven/Hank
Rating: Explicit
Word Count: 28k
Warnings: none

Summary: “The Secret of Dragon Ranch” is the first prime-time gay cartoon to be made specifically for children’s TV, and Erik wants in. The last person he’s expecting to see when he shows up for work is Charles Xavier, and given how badly they parted, he’s going to take this chance to mend things between them. Warnings for homophobia, some ableism. Stand-alone companion piece to "The Secret of Dragon Ranch", with no particular reading order necessary.

Fic Title: Secret of the Dragon Ranch
Author: [profile] misswinterhill
X-Men Verse: XMFC pony!AU
Characters/Pairings: Charles/Erik, background Raven/Hank
Rating: T
Word Count: 24k
Warnings: none

Summary: Ironhooves has been a prisoner on Dragon Ranch all his life when he finally escapes and goes searching for somepony special to help him defeat the evil dragons and save his Mama. Professor Oxford Blue might just be that special somepony. Lots of fluff and ponies pining after one another.

Here be ponies )

People - this is XMFC reimagined with ponies. I'm just saying. :D

Fic Title: A Road to Safety or Ruin
Author: [personal profile] keire_ke
X-Men Verse: XMFC AU
Characters/Pairings: Charles/Erik
Rating: mature
Word Count: 28k
Warnings: I'm choosing not to warn

Summary: Erik should feel only anger when he thinks of the sky-pirates, of their exploits and disregard for laws. By rights he should be glad when one is caught committing a crime on Genoshan land, as it should give him some satisfaction to sentence the man to death. Shouldn't he?

Fic Title: Ghost in the Shell
Author: [profile] monstrousreg
X-Men Verse: XMFC, guest stars from around Marvel
Characters/Pairings: Charles/Erik
Rating: R
Word Count: +50k
Warnings: Graphic violence and sexual content, strong language,
gratuitous use of Chinese (language, not a citizen).

Summary: Out in the black of space, where the only creatures whose
company you can always count on are violence and death, making a living is
a wager. Erik’s crew of mismatched social misfits scrapes by, toeing the
line between law and crime. Normally, they prefer to stay out of the
Alliance’s way, but when it comes to defending the very freedom they fought
for a decade ago, the only follow one principle: when someone tries to kill
you, you kill them right back.

Welcome to first world problems. Hi, my name is Keiran, and this is my problem: Prometheus premiers on the 20th of July. Why, god, why? How the hell am I supposed to avoid spoilers until then?

Also, my BSc special project report is tiny. I typed most of what I can say without descending into "so, this nucleosides are mighty interesting" and I'm looking at four pages. Four! I have a stack of chromatogram print-outs (the stack is ~40 pages), but they're just print-outs, which I can't even append to the electronic version, which I also need to submit. It's not finished yet, so maybe if I really fluff up the theoretical part I can go as high as six pages, but that still seems... Yeah.

:(

And I hit a wall with the X-Men Reverse Big Bang fic.

Wouldn't that be supercute? :D I wasn't terribly impressed by the movie the first time around, but I have watched it a few times since then, and it grew on me something awful.

Thus: Despicable Erik )

The kink-meme prompt is here, should anyone want for a half-cracky plotbunny.

Is any of you Jewish/knows how synagogue service works? I'm writing a fic and I need to know if Kaddish is routinely read, or if you can ask for it to be included, and if so, when? Specifically, this is the first anniversary of a death of a family member (the character in question is making the effort to commemorate the occasion, but he's not overly religious - it's not his temple, merely a temple that's nearest to where he currently is).

I'll be grateful for any and all help!
