Hm. NaNo is coming up, and I'm thinking of signing up this year. Still have a month to think it through, in case it turns out the uni is indeed as horrid as it seems to be - seriously, let's not go there. Everyone is confused, even the professors are confused. I also think it sucks that we only do one tiny essay and a gazillion tests. I should have stayed in the UK, at least they were reasonable. *grumbles*

On the other hand, I am so disorganised that I would probably write three thousand words the first day, feel proud of myself, forget I was doing anything and stop. Decisions...

I know a few of you did NaNo these past few years - what do you think? Should I try and go for it? And if yes, should I write something original (which I really should - I'm so out of practice, it's not even funny) or fanfic?

Hm, try to do it unofficially this year. And if it works out, if you actually finish it in time, go for it next time.

Good point. Though I'm worried that if I do it unofficially, there will be no pressure, and without pressure I hardly do anything. At all. o.O

I've been thinking about signing up this year as well but I'm almost sure I'm not going to make it. I'm under the impression that a writer must have lots of discipline to be able to finish so....I'm still thinking. If they let me write drabbles that together reach the 75034958039458 words needed I just might do it hehehe XD
Good luck, either you decide to participate on it or not =3

I'm pretty sure I won't either. And I agree, it involves a whole lot of discipline (which I lack). But I wanted to try. Maybe I'll take Kati's advice and do it unofficially, just to see if I can.

I thought about it. It attracts me because there are a lot of people doing it together. We can nudge each other to finish the stories.

I decided against it. I didn't want to do it 'because everyone else is'. If I can't come up with a better reason, I don't need to.

What I'm doing instead. I start a story at or near the beginning of the month. It doesn't have a word limit, only a time limit. It has to be done by the end of the month.

My September story didn't do very well. My October story hasn't been started yet.

I want to try, because I have the feeling that I'm just not writing enough. And I figure this could be a way to get motivated. And, I wanted to write something long and preferably original, because fanfic is great, but you know. I wanna write something I don't have to precede with "not mine, don't sue".

Writing a story per month is a good idea too - I'll get to that as I finish ACB, NTLN and the companion fic, as of now. -______- The sad thing is, the acronymed two only need a chapter each.

*smile* I put all my original stuff under friends-lock, but it's there. I usually can't concentrate long enough to finish a story.

NTLN I can't remember, but ACB only has one more chapter?!

I rarely write original, unless it's for class. And even then I cheat. I once wrote this story that needed a find&replace to be a decent Sanzo/Goku fic. XD

NTLN is the Hinafic - pretty much everything resolved there. I'll be the first to admit I didn't think it through completely, so there's plenty that might remin unexplained. ACB I'm not sure about, but one, two chapters at the most. I think. o.O

*de-lurks*

Go for it. Even if you don't manage to finish, that's still more writing than you had before. And I'd say try something original. It's a good reason to dust off some of the skills that get rusty when all you write is fanfic.

Thanks! *gives you de-lurk cookies* I think I will try something, unofficially at least. Like you said, still more writing than I had before. ^_______^

Try anyway. Even 4598 words is 4598 that you wouldn't have written otherwise.

I have no idea how I succeeded in 2004 though. I remember that I tended to do about 4000 or 5000 on some days, as opposed to the steady c.1700 a day.

Good point. Knowing me I'd probably do plenty on the first three days than kill the muse by accident, but it's worth a shot. XD Thanks!

If Uni isn't horrid, then I say give it a go, hun - you haven't got anything to lose.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm giving Uni a chance to prove it won't be terrible, but it's failing miserably at the moment. XD
