NaNo thinking

Hm. NaNo is coming up, and I'm thinking of signing up this year. Still have a month to think it through, in case it turns out the uni is indeed as horrid as it seems to be - seriously, let's not go there. Everyone is confused, even the professors are confused. I also think it sucks that we only do one tiny essay and a gazillion tests. I should have stayed in the UK, at least they were reasonable. *grumbles*
On the other hand, I am so disorganised that I would probably write three thousand words the first day, feel proud of myself, forget I was doing anything and stop. Decisions...
I know a few of you did NaNo these past few years - what do you think? Should I try and go for it? And if yes, should I write something original (which I really should - I'm so out of practice, it's not even funny) or fanfic?

Date: 2007-10-03 11:00 pm (UTC)I decided against it. I didn't want to do it 'because everyone else is'. If I can't come up with a better reason, I don't need to.
What I'm doing instead. I start a story at or near the beginning of the month. It doesn't have a word limit, only a time limit. It has to be done by the end of the month.
My September story didn't do very well. My October story hasn't been started yet.

Date: 2007-10-03 11:08 pm (UTC)Writing a story per month is a good idea too - I'll get to that as I finish ACB, NTLN and the companion fic, as of now. -______- The sad thing is, the acronymed two only need a chapter each.

Date: 2007-10-04 02:42 pm (UTC)NTLN is the Hinafic - pretty much everything resolved there. I'll be the first to admit I didn't think it through completely, so there's plenty that might remin unexplained. ACB I'm not sure about, but one, two chapters at the most. I think. o.O

Date: 2007-10-04 03:34 am (UTC)Go for it. Even if you don't manage to finish, that's still more writing than you had before. And I'd say try something original. It's a good reason to dust off some of the skills that get rusty when all you write is fanfic.

Date: 2007-10-04 08:16 am (UTC)I have no idea how I succeeded in 2004 though. I remember that I tended to do about 4000 or 5000 on some days, as opposed to the steady c.1700 a day.
