Epic love story of a boy and his dragon.

Okay, first, the following is what I expect my favourite movies to deliver:
How To Train Your Dragon is pretty much all this. I squeed in the cinema, squeed out loud.
Why yes, I am a ten year old boy at heart.
On to the movie: I have viewed Up! and wept, and without delay added it to the list of my favourite serious movies, because I thought it was that amazing, original and WAH, "I have just met you, but I love you." HTTYD is a whole 'nother ballgame - plot is what it is, anvils are anvils but mostly I WANT ONE! <== this is the thought I exited the cinema with. Oh, my god, the black dragon was so cute! <3 Again, ten year old boy. XD The plot is what it says on the tin, and the movie on the whole about everything you might therefore expect. "Be yourself," "being yourself is awesome and works," yadda yadda yadda. Slightly anvilicious, but not uncomfortably so. The biggest surprise is that the daddy, who has "redemption equals death" written on his forehead, gets later restamped as "redemption equals being awesome." He is Gerard Butler, after all.
Epic bromance of boy and dragon = SO MUCH WIN I DON'T EVEN
Just about the only surprise, though in retrospect there have been hints, was that Hiccup doesn't emerge in one piece. Nobody dies, but the hero loses half his leg. o.O
In the words of the seven year old who was sitting behind us at the cinema: "It's a hit!"
- explosions
- colourful explosions
- flying (can be gratuitous, I'm not fussy)
- if at all possible, flying open vehicles
- epic bromance
- drama in moderation
- happy ending
