WATCH THIS VID. NOW.
Apr. 28th, 2007 02:38 pmWatch this video. I'm talking to you, FFVII: AC fans. For full effect pump up the volume, although sanity may demand tuning it down.
Best Tom&Jerry episode EVER. *coughs* Yes, I love vintage cartoons.
I'm not generally bothered by the lame, the horrible and the badfics. The only fic that scarred me for life was actually a rec on GWyaoi.org. So, yeah. Something doesn't strike my fancy, I don't read it. I have a surprisingly high tolerance for the horrid examples of fandom writing. They amuse me. But I really hate it when an otherwise good fic, one I should love, on all accounts, makes me wince. And unfortunately, this happens quite often recently, with one specific author (none of you, FList, dear). And it's because the author seems completely incapable of letting the characters speak for themselves.
Now, right, that sounds weird. But that's how it goes. The phrasing is right, the language okay, but what they're saying is so blatantly the author's opinion, it makes me wince. I have minor issues with characterisation, from time to time, but overall I would be fangirling the fics like mad. If it wasn't for the preaching. And it's not even a religious/current issues/political preaching, no. It's the way the author's take on canon is shoved down my throat. It's okay to have strong opinions regarding canon events/characters/conventions, don't get me wrong, but fics are not the place to preach them. Well, not in that manner at least.
And now, back to work. *shudders*

Ah, yeah, I've seen that time and time again - you're so not alone. :) It's sad. But then, seeing it so blatant has definitely helped me look at my own stuff as a writer, and made sure I don't make the same mistakes. Staying IC, for me, is one of the most important things and top in my head when I'm writing fic, regardless of how I feel about the situations/themes of the story.

Date: 2007-04-29 12:55 am (UTC)I know... and what really makes me sulks is that they're good stories! And well, there can never be enough of a good thing, but this just ruins the enjoyment. I appreciate it's a very difficult thing to catch, in one's own fic.
