Hm... I think this may be my first post of 2010!

So, what's new? I pretty much passed chemistry (not the exam yet), though am considering retaking the test, to get a better overall grade. I've got straight As for the lab exercises, but Cs for the test, which unfortunately count towards 66% of the grade. :(

Much as I love Photoshop, it's not the most computer-friendly graphic software. I have been testing Seashore, which is usable, but only a step above Paint. Now, if anyone has any recommendation, I would love to hear them. I need software (preferably free) that reacts to pen pressure, has layers (though I'm flexible about that) and most importantly works on a Mac. I tried ChocoFlop, too, and it looks pretty good, though it is just a preview and works kinda weird.

I know there is someone on my Flist who watches Dollhouse. Now I'm of the opinion the show turned out splendid, especially the latter part of the second season - everything falls apart nicely. Especially in last night's episode. :) It also works best if you ignore everything you know about Joss Whedon shows, mind. There's little funnies, little snark, plenty of existentialism, existentialist angst and mind-screwing.

I don't much care for cell-shading. It's annoying!

Why yes, there is a storyline attached to it, why do you ask?

... for the love of god, someone take it off my hands (and head)!

I don't know if it works in mac but have you ever tried Paint Tool SAI? some may say is like photoshop, but while photoshop is commonly used for manipulation, SAI is made for real painting, and specially if you have a tablet, is very easy to use and learn~ and if you hear some opinions, eeeveryone loves the way the colors blend in it.it almost paints on its own~

Sadly, Paint Tool SAI is for Windows only. :( This makes me a sad panda...

I do love Photoshop, but it is too tasking for the computer. PTS, unfortunately, appears to be Windows-exclusive, which is a shame. :(

awww! shame! SAI isn't a tasking program at all, is very light and shuts off and on instantly =(

It's cool! Sanzo looked like he's succumbed to whatever Goku was going to do to him.

I'm still working! I should have something good to send you tomorrow evening after I get home from work! *snugs* And I'm off work Monday, so we can work and discuss properly!

I'm just mad about dumping the boys into an existing universe (yes, I am that lazy...), but sci-fis indeed have a particular charm...

I like it, although I wonder what personality Goku would choose to implant Sanzo with? I need to get round to watching the second season of Dollhouse at some point...

Well, though it might break most people's brains, I would love to have him dump a five year old girl in the blond noodle. For shits and giggles. :D

Dollhouse completely won me over with Epitaph One, and season 2, with the possible exception of "Instinct" was a consistent string of "Holy shit, that's so brilliant and so messed up!" Am still iffy on Echo, but everything else is magnificent.

She is what puts me off the series I must admit ^^;! But I will try and find the reruns because of the other awesome characters. I love Topher, Paul and DeWitt :-)!

Great idea, well-executed (looks very anime-esque to my none-to-expert eye).

I smiled too because, as you know, I see a lot of parallels between Goku and River (which I think you're alluding to via Bennett).

I am testing a new graphics program, which sadly falls short of being a Photoshop substitute, but it is usable. Sadly, PS had become too hard on the ol' Mac.

I admit I'm less about the meta and more about "wheeee, shiny!" but yeah, River and Goku have plenty in common. Especially, one hopes, when Goku gets his memories back. :> When it comes to Dollhouse, my instinctive Goku connection is Echo - he does have a special brain, after all, and multiple personalities are clearly his main problem.

I haven't seen the second half of S2 yet (but have high hopes of it after Epitaph One and all the spoilers I've read). So maybe that explains why I don't see much Goku in Echo. She really annoys me (*ducks*) whereas I adore Goku. Intellectually though, I can see there's a reasonable argument for linking them.

S2 is just about everything you could want and more from a show about mind wiping and evil corporations. :)

I agree, Echo kind of bugs me too (it's the idealism and the Cause. People with Causes always bug me), but she has a few qualities that link her to Goku strongly. She has a personality that's resilient to any programming and changes, has pretty strong protective instincts, there are aspects of her that she has to struggle with, not to kill everyone, she has enough charisma for people to be drawn to her.

And yet I make Sanzo the doll. *shakes head*

Perhaps the second half of S2 will make me fonder of her (because I'm so with you on People With Causes).

And yet I make Sanzo the doll.

Well, if I were hiring one of the ikkou as a sex toy, it would be him! *g*

It gets better in that Echo becomes a person, not just Eliza Dushku with a confused face. She's still anti-establishment, but at that point the threat is so real it's less A Cause and more genuine reaction, which makes her okay. The show is still stolen by Adelle and Victor, mind.

Can't argue with that logic... :D

*nods* That makes sense. The problem I've had all the way through with Dollhouse is that it's been far too thinky. As if Joss started with an idea rather than an emotion. Even the emotions we did get felt grafted on - particularly with Echo.

I didn't feel the show properly until the second season (well, Alpha on screen and then Epitaph One) and what I did feel was for the background characters rather than Echo.

*more agreement from me* Sierra is the character who kept me watching, and then I developed some interest in Adelle, Victor and Topher. Alan Tudyk did a great job with Alpha and I liked Dr Saunders/Whiskey. It's strange that the main characters (Echo and Paul) did nothing for me at all and I did wonder if that was because Joss had a much longer, more off-beat arc he was working on (and one that was a fantasy on being an actor on a meta level), but again - too thinky. And if I hadn't been such a huge Joss fan to begin with, I doubt I'd have stuck with the show beyond the second episode.

Sierra, absolutely. Her and Victor - now when they started developing personalities, I felt it! :)

Trouble with Paul and Echo was that the first one was another cause at work, and Echo was someone else in each episode, which didn't help.

Hm, I did love the premise (screwing with brains? I am so there), so I was determined to stick it out. I'm glad I did. :>

The picture is VERY nice, and now I need to go fully dive into Dollhouse, like I've been wanting to do. As for software, I would suggest openoffice. I haven't tried out the art program in Open Office, but I know the text program can save in any damned format you please, including Mac formats.

Do so, it's really good once you get through the obligatory "Fox will mess with your creation" episodes. :)

I don't think the art program is sophisticated enough. The program looks good for minor editions and simple visualisation, but I need something that can simulate traditional art.
